Living with my PCOS

Hello there, Its a bright morning here today and I am sipping my protein shake while thinking about how do I start? Current Update: I am 20 years, well almost 21 in like 18 days. And luckily I got my periods this month. I am 55 kgs. Emotionally and Mentally doing all good. You will read more about PCOD/PCOS in my following blogs.

Where it all Began:

To start with my School days I was a very active girl back then, I loved sports and games. I used to be surrounded more with boys playing somethings than girls. I aws always a Tomboy. And I got my periods very late in my 10th grade where all my friends already had experience of 2-3 years. Even though I got my periods it was never regular. I used to get it once or twice in 6 months, so I consulted with my Doc and she said, “its normal to have irregular periods as I just go started with it”. So irregular periods was never a concern for me.

Then I got into my Higher Secondary, i.e. 11th-12th College days. Well I had applied for JEE, which was such a failure LOL, anyway study stress was constant for 2 years. And we all know when we are out with friends, no one is going to eat healthy salad! Every weekend we used to hangout in dominos and McDonalds. Till 10th I rarely had fast food, but this was a drastic change in my diet. I also gained weight, started loosing a lot of hair, never had an acne problem though. But I never notice these changes and the people around me were all my school buddies, they never complained me about how I look or about my mood swings.

Now irregular periods was a big deal as it had been 3 years I got my periods and i should have got i right till now like every month on time. So I consulted with a Gynecologist, she told me to test for my thyroid and get sonography diagnosis to check if I have cysts. So thyroid was negative and PCOS test was positive.
In 2015 i was diagnosed with PCOS. Me and my parents were new to this word. My doctor suggested me to loose weight and didn’t gave any prescriptions as she said i was too young to have medicine treatment.

My Sonogram report

My Bachelor College had just begin, so I started to eat fruits (mostly apple) for my lunch. I used to have a heavy breakfast and then just had an apple in the afternoon. Then ate when i returned back home at 6 in the evening. i totally cut eating rice, coming from an Indian family rice is considered the main part of any meal but i was never a big fan of rice so that was easy for me. I did not focus more on my workouts. Still my periods were irregular once in 3-4 months.

Two years passed i tried homeopathy, Ayurvedic medicines but nothing helped me. And as i grew from my 1st year to my 3rd year i slowly started observing that friends around me notice that i look fat, i am chubby. They call me Panda, Penguin, Gorilla Teddy bear and many more. it never offended me but somewhere in back of my mind i felt bad. So i really started to workout i used to run for an hour on treadmill everyday. Did some crunches and abs workout with it. And yes! i lost few pounds got my periods the next month. But again i couldn’t maintain the consistency. My weight was 59kg when i was in 12th grade, lost 4 kgs with alot of hardwork and struggle.

This is from my 1st year of bachelors degree- 56kgs

I am consulting my gynecologist taking few medicines, Eating clean, exercising and staying calm.I still have many things to figure out to how my body reacts well. And what is good for my body. It is hard for anyone who is not going through the same to completely understand the impact a syndrome/disease can have on you personally. It’s a very personal process. I was confused, anxious and desperate to find answers/solutions to a growing women’s health issue that affects so many – but is not often discussed.

In my next blog you will read more about
